Privacy Notice

Privacy at a glance

  • Knowy is not watching your screen all the time. It receives screen content only when you explicitly capture or share it for help.
  • Voice wake is optional. It is enabled only after you grant microphone access. You can turn it off in settings or say “go to sleep”.
  • We do not sell personal data or use it for advertising. We do not manually watch users’ screens or listen to their conversations.
  • Some content is processed to provide the service. Chats, attachments, voice submitted for transcription, and account information may be stored in your account history and sent to service providers that generate the requested response.
  • You remain in control. You can disconnect integrations, delete individual conversations, or request deletion of your account and data.

1. Who we are

hiKnowy is operated by Khaled Matar, based in Iași, Romania. For the personal data described below, Khaled Matar (hiKnowy) acts as the data controller. You can contact us for any privacy question at hiknowy@gmail.com.

2. Data we collect

  • Account data: email address, name, profile bio, preferred language, and login credentials.
  • Content you submit: chat messages, uploaded documents and images, screenshots or screen regions you deliberately share, voice recordings for transcription, goals, and notes.
  • Usage data: features used, thread history, and diagnostic logs used to keep the beta reliable.
  • Technical data: IP address, device and browser type, session identifiers, and diagnostic logs.
  • Cookies and analytics identifiers: see section 6 below.

3. How and why we use your data

  • Providing the Service — creating your account, generating AI responses, saving your conversations and goals. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
  • Customer support — responding to your questions and requests. Legal basis: performance of a contract and legitimate interests.
  • Security, fraud prevention, and abuse detection. Legal basis: legitimate interests and legal obligation.
  • Product improvement and analytics — understanding how features are used. Legal basis: legitimate interests (or consent, where required).
  • Communications — service messages you can't opt out of, and product updates only where you have opted in. Legal basis: legitimate interests or consent.

4. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers that help us run hiKnowy, under contracts that require them to protect it:

  • Hosting and database — our cloud infrastructure and authentication providers.
  • AI providers — chat messages, uploaded files, and selections are sent to our AI model providers so they can generate responses and transcriptions.
  • Analytics providers — such as Google Analytics and PostHog, to measure product usage.
  • Email delivery — for transactional messages such as sign-in and contact confirmations.
  • Professional advisers — legal, accounting, and tax advisers where necessary.
  • Authorities — where we are legally required to do so.

5. International transfers

Some of our providers process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.

6. Cookies and analytics

hiKnowy uses strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. With your consent, we also use analytics cookies (Google Analytics, PostHog) to understand how the Service is used. You can accept or decline analytics cookies through the banner shown on your first visit, and manage them at any time through your browser settings.

7. Data retention

We keep your account and content data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we need to keep limited records for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes (typically up to the period required by law). Backups are rotated on a rolling schedule and are then deleted.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR and Romanian data protection law, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, email us at hiknowy@gmail.com. We aim to respond within one month.

If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you can lodge a complaint with the Romanian Data Protection Authority (ANSPDCP) or with your local EU/EEA supervisory authority.

9. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and least-privilege database policies. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children

hiKnowy is not directed at children under 13 (or under the digital consent age in your country, where higher). If you believe a child has provided us personal data without a parent's consent, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, notify you through the app or by email.
